Artist studio revival, Mid Cornwall
Chris asked me in for a garden clear — then, while I was there, he asked if I could do up the old outbuilding so he could use it as an artist studio. I kept costs down with leftover paints and scrap wood, sorted the cladding, doors and windows, and left him a tidy white exterior with that Cornish sea view still sitting right behind it. Proper turn-up-and-get-it-done job for a regular customer.
Drawing room revival for Sheila, Mid Cornwall
Sheila asked me in after fire damage left her Mid Cornwall drawing room needing a proper reset. Painting was with Bud & Lou Rosewall, painters and decorators from St Mawes who do high-end properties around the village — friends of mine, with Bud up the ladder on those high vaulted walls. I then carried on myself around the room: blinds, and a custom unit that grew as we went — first one bookcase, then two, then two bookcases plus a media centre, so the grandchildren have somewhere to sit while the adults use the other part of the room. I started the carcase in the workshop, then realised the full run was too big to get up the spiral staircase, so I built one section there and finished the rest on site, fitted to the wall and sloped ceiling, and painted it sage green. I also micro-cemented the new fire back and guard so it matched the pink marble surround. End-to-end handyman and joinery to bring the room back to life.
